Cypionate
(Testosterone Cypionate)
Testosterone Cypionate is a single large ester testosterone compound that was developed in the 1950’s shortly after the emergence of Testosterone Enanthate. The two testosterone forms are virtually identical in every way. The only difference of any note is some will experience an irritation due to Enanthate injections that does not occur with Cypionate. Beyond this possible difference, and most won’t notice the difference, everything that can be said of the Enanthate form can be said of Testosterone Cypionate.
Cypionate based testosterone was first brought to the U.S. market by Upjohn under the trade name Depo-Testosterone. Upjohn still manufactures the compound today, but since that time Testosterone Cypionate has been picked up by several other U.S. based pharmaceutical companies. This is one of the most common forms of testosterone on earth; it is extremely common in the world of performance enhancement and manufactured by numerous underground labs (UGL’s). The Cypionate version is also one of the most commonly prescribed testosterones in the U.S. for the treatment of low testosterone.
Cypionate Traits:
Testosterone Cypionate is an injectable testosterone medication. It is a synthetic version of the naturally produced testosterone hormone attached to the large Cypionate ester. By attaching an ester to a hormone, this slows its releasing activity down so that it doesn’t have to be injected as frequently. Cypionate carries an active half-life of approximately 8 days, meaning low testosterone patients will only need to administer the compound once every 7-10 days. Once every week is the optimal way to go, but some physicians will stretch out administration to the 10 day mark. Others will go as far as every 14 days, but this isn’t the most efficient schedule.
As a synthetic testosterone, Cypionate is the perfect and one of the most common remedies for treating low testosterone. Testosterone is essential to all human beings, men and women, but men need approximately ten times more than women. Millions of men worldwide suffer from low testosterone. This is a very bothersome condition that carries numerous possible symptoms, it’s extremely unhealthy, and while not directly life-threatening, if ignored it can be a gateway to far more serious conditions. If you suffer from any of the following symptoms, you may very well have low testosterone, and you will find Testosterone Cypionate can remedy each and everyone if the symptoms are due to low levels. The symptoms include:
- Loss of Libido
- Erectile Dysfunction
- Loss of Strength (despite diet & exercise)
· Loss of Muscle Mass (despite diet & exercise)
- Increased Body Fat (despite diet & exercise)
- Loss of Energy
- Lethargy
- Decreased Mental Clarity
- Insomnia
- Decreased Rates of Physical Recovery
- Depression
- Irritability
- Weakened Immune System
If you suffer from low testosterone, you will normally display at least two of the above symptoms. Most men will display at least one of the sexually related and another from the list. As levels remain low, most men will notice the symptoms begin to mount up. Cypionate based testosterone is one of the most effective methods of treating the condition. It will be more effective than any type of transdermal application such as a gel or patch. By treating your low testosterone with Cypionate, you will also prevent your low testosterone from supporting serious conditions such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis just to name a few.
Testosterone Cypionate is also a very common anabolic steroid used in the world of performance enhancement. This is one of the more versatile steroids we have at our disposal, and most men will find it is very well-tolerated. All who supplement with Cypionate based testosterone will enjoy improvements in the areas mentioned in the low level symptoms list above. However, it is this compounds ability to provide five primary anabolic steroid traits that make it so valuable to so many performance minded individuals. Such traits include:
- Enhanced Protein Synthesis
- Enhanced Nitrogen Retention
- Increased IGF-1 Production
- Increased Red Blood Cell Count
- Decreased Glucocorticoid Production
With Testosterone Cypionate, nearly every last performance related goal can be obtained. This steroid can be used and effectively so for bulking and cutting cycles as well as in athletes simply looking for a direct enhancement in performance. With adequate calories, large amounts of muscle mass can be built, strength will increase, and this can all be accomplished with less body fat gain that would otherwise occur due to an enhanced metabolic rate. For the dieting athlete, with a caloric restriction, more body fat will be lost, but more importantly, the lean muscle mass that would normally be lost when dieting will be protected. Regardless of your purpose of use, all will enjoy an enhanced rate of recovery and enhanced muscular endurance. This is the primary reason so many performance athletes will use Cypionate or any related testosterone compound. Not to mention the strength boost that often comes with it.
Side Effects of Cypionate:
Cypionate is well-tolerated by most men, but this does not mean side effects are non-existent. However, with responsible use most men will not experience any negative effects; after all, it’s just testosterone, a hormone your body is well-accustomed to. This will hold especially true for those using Cypionate based testosterone to treat a low level condition. In such cases, you are merely replacing what you are lacking. You are not taking your levels above and beyond what the body is accustomed to, but rather bringing them back up to where they’re supposed to be. Side effects are still possible, but they are unlikely.
Where the side effects of Cypionate are most common is with performance based use referring to supraphysiological doses. With such doses, we are taking our testosterone levels far beyond what our body has ever or could ever experience without related doses. Despite supraphysiological doses, most healthy adult men can avoid every last Cypionate side effect if they don’t get too carried away and take the necessary precautions.
The side effects of Testosterone Cypionate can largely be broken down into two separate categories, estrogenic and androgenic. Estrogenic side effects will be the most concerning and common as Cypionate, like all testosterone compounds, has the ability to aromatize at a fairly strong rate. Aromatization referring to the conversion of testosterone to estrogen, and when estrogen levels rise it can contribute to three common steroidal side effects. Such effects include gynecomastia, excess water retention and high blood pressure. High blood pressure is dependent on excess water retention in this case.
Then we have the androgenic side effects of Cypionate, and this is largely due to its ability to interact with the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. Through this action, testosterone has the ability to convert to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This can promote acne, hair loss and in some cases, with a large enough buildup of DHT, prostate enlargement. Prostate enlargement is the most concerning, but it is very rare if the prostate was healthy to begin with, no underlying issues exist and reasonable doses are used. You should not supplement with Cypionate if you already suffer from prostate enlargement. As for hair loss, this is dependent on your predisposition to male pattern baldness. If you are predisposed, you’re going to lose your hair at some point anyway, but the use of Cypionate may speed it up. Acne is also somewhat genetically related. Those who are already sensitive may run into a problem, but keeping the skin clean and dry at all times is enough protection for most men.
In order to prevent and avoid the side effects of Testosterone Cypionate of an estrogenic nature, most men who supplement with performance doses will need an anti-estrogen. Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators SERM’s) and Aromatase Inhibitors (AI’s) are your two choices. AI’s are the most effective as they will inhibit aromatization and lower the body’s estrogen levels. However, AI’s can have a negative impact on cholesterol that SERM’s cannot. SERM’s will function as they bind to the receptors preventing estrogen from binding, but they will not reduce estrogen directly or inhibit aromatase. SERM’s can be enough for many men to combat gynecomastia, but for many it’s not enough. Many men will have to use an AI to control gynecomastia as well as severe water retention. You can control water retention without an AI, but some men will find it difficult. As for blood pressure, control water retention and you will control blood pressure.
In order to provide protection against the androgenic side effects of Cypionate based testosterone, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors can be useful. Finasteride is the most common choice. This will greatly reduce the risk of the testosterone hormone causing androgenic related side effects. If you are predisposed to male pattern baldness, the use of Finasteride products like Propecia or Proscar can buy you some time. Where this androgen suppressor will be most valuable will be in the fight against prostate enlargement. Studies have shown such therapy has the ability to significantly reduce enlargement with six months of use, and often it does so completely.
